Our Curriculum
Asana Study
Asana study begins with anatomy, including the musculoskeletal system with asana application, the anatomy of the nervous system, and topics such as hypermobility, common injuries and illnesses, and aging.
We will closely examine postures, including alignment, pose adaptations, pose groupings, prop use (walls, chairs, belts, blocks, blankets, bolsters), adjustments, balancing strength & stretch, and restoratives.
You will learn various sequencing methods, including sequencing for beginners, sequencing for a key action, sequencing for a peak pose, sequencing for foundational pose study, sequencing for restoratives, and purpose-driven vinyasa sequencing.
Additionally, expect plenty of individual attention. You will complete this training with increased awareness, and a softer, deeper, stronger relationship with your practice.
Yoga Humanities
We will ask (and attempt to answer!) questions such as: What is yoga…and how did we get here? You’ll survey the timeline of yoga throughout history, look closely as the emergence of modern postural yoga, including studying key figures who brought yoga to the west. Additionally, we will examine the impacts of colonialism on yoga, and overview pre-colonial yoga history.
You will read translations of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita, and study these with historical context and critical thinking, drawing from them the prominent yoga teachings that are carried forward today.
Expect to make connections between the readings and your personal path, experiences, and history.
Art of Teaching
We will immerse ourselves in what it means to be a teacher, covering topics including boundaries, ethics, education vs. customer service, the student-teacher relationship, performance vs. presence, abuse in yoga settings, burnout, holding the container, managing the unexpected, and more.
Through conversation, readings, and exercises, and with support from Peach and the group, you can expect to turn your eye inward to develop intimacy with your own path as both a student, and a teacher of yoga.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Appropriation
Led by esteemed California-based coach and yoga teacher Dr. Azure Stewart, you will participate in conversation and exercises to thoughtfully examine the topics of diversity, equity, inclusion, spiritual bypassing, and appropriation as it relates to yoga and teaching yoga.
Trauma and Applied Pyschology
Under the guidance of Colorado-based author, somatic therapist and yoga teacher Livia Shapiro, expect to dive into “Applied Psychology for Yoga Teachers,” including trauma informed teaching, holding space for chaos, and more.
